Gulf Coast Retreat

Wellington Lakes is a small residential community in South Fort Myers on Winkler Road south of Summerlin. On the junction of Summerlin and Winkler is a Shopping centre where there is a supermarket, banks, food outlets and drug stores. Fort Myers is known as the City of Palms and has an historic downtown area and is where Thomas Edison and Henry Ford had their winter homes. These are open to the public and are worth a visit.

Beaches

South West Florida has some of the best beaches you may have seen. Just a few miles from the house is Fort Myers Beach which has miles of white sandy beach and many beach bars and restaurants along its length. Most water sports and sea fishing are also available. All along the coastline are a number of beaches and wildlife areas from Naples in the south up to St Pete’s and beyond in the north.

Sanibel and Captiva Islands

The area around Fort Myers is sometimes known as ‘Florida’s Tropical Island Paradise’ and part of this are the islands of Sanibel and Captiva, which again a just a few miles drive from the villa. These islands have their own beaches and one of the main attractions here is the ‘Ding’ Darling Wildlife Refuge where you can drive (or take the trolley) through miles of authentic Florida wetlands. It is also possible to hire bicycles on Sanibel should you wish to see the island in a more leisurely way.

Fort Myers is the home to several public golf courses, most of which will have rental clubs.

Should you want a change of scenery why not take the ferry to Key West, about a 3 hour trip. The Everglades National Park is about an hours’ drive away on route 41.
North of the house on the Caloosahatchee River is a Manatee Park where at certain times of the year it is possible to see several of these creatures in the wild.

For those shoppers amongst you, this area is a dream, with several malls and outlets within easy reach.
